To this year’s Washington County Open Studios Tour
Happy October! What we here at the WCAA look forward to the most this month is the Washington County Open Studios Tour and, we are officially 16 days away from the first day studios will be open to the public! Did I mention this is a FREE event?!
Given that the tour is around the corner, fellow artist by the name of Cherie Savoie Tintary approached the board and suggested we feature artists who are doing the WCOST for the first time and we thought this was a great idea; What a perfect way to introduce new artists and their artwork! So, sit back with your favorite drink of choice, relax and enjoy getting to know these artists…
Suzanne Tyler – Fused Glass Artist
“What interested me most about being a part of WCOS is the chance to open my studio doors and give people a glimpse into the creative process. I see it as not just a way to share my work, but also as an opportunity to exchange ideas, gain inspiration from conversations, and grow as an artist through those connections.
I was drawn to fused glass because it bridges the gap between art and alchemy. There’s something magical about taking simple elements—glass, heat, and imagination—and transforming them into something completely new. It continually pushes me to experiment and keeps my work evolving.
Something I’d like to share with the community is that every piece of fused glass I create is truly one-of-a-kind. I love that glass has a life of its own—it shifts with light, color, and heat—and being able to share that process with others is very meaningful to me. For me, participating in this open studio is not only about showcasing finished pieces, but also about inviting people into the joy, experimentation, and surprise that glass brings to my work.”

Naveed Hasan- Watercolor Artist
“I have always been drawn to the Water color medium. If I saw a wall with paintings at someone’s house…I would be particularly drawn to the one with Watercolors. The transparency, the fluidity and the beauty always intrigued me.
What inspires me to continue to create in my chosen medium: I have tried acrylics and pastels and have enjoyed them however, I love the way loose watercolors merge and mix and the effect it creates. Living in the Pacific NorthWest is my biggest Inspiration….everywhere I look, anytime of the year there is some part of nature that draws me to it.
Why WCOS: I moved to Oregon at the end of 2019 and was looking to make friends with like minded people. I play tennis and paint …..and so I connected with the Washington County Art Alliance. It was through them that I registered for the WCOS.”

Jan Marie Auten- Acrylic Artist
“I look forward to sharing with others in something I love. I chose this medium because oils bother my allergies. I paint because it gives me peace and a sense of wonder.”
“I have never been a part of Open Studios before. I believe it will help me promote my art which I am not particularly good at doing.”
“I paint what I see as the beauty of creation by a Creator with all its colors and uniqueness just as He has made us.”

Jan is stop #5 this year and looks forward to your visit!
Neerajana Rai- Oil Artist
“I am a passionate oil painting artist, who believes Art is one of the best ways to express ourself and everyone should practice some form of art. I love to paint, learn, teach and socialize, spreading message of art.
My inspiration lies in nature and inner feelings. I always create what my soul finds solace in, where positivity and richness go side by side. And this freedom I enjoy in the Mediums I choose.
My art Medium reflects me, my experiences, my hardships, my choices, my thought process that who I am today. The use of different mixed Medium and textures as under layers shows my struggles and hardships which I overcome by the richness, brilliance and brightness of oil colors showing my strengths and capabilities to evolve, to shape myself who I am today.”

Jean Anderson – Watercolor Artist
“What drew me to my art medium: My brother was doing watercolor and when he showed me how easy it was to get those wonderful colors, I was hooked.
Something to share with the community: I’d love for people to know that watercolor is easy and really fun if you get instruction from a good teacher. Students come to me to learn how to paint of course, but they also come to get motivated to paint or because they want to be with other artists. I put a lot into my classes and I make sure everyone has fun. I’d like for people to know that with watercolor you need good supplies. I like to help students pick out good supplies so they will be successful. Working with my friends at Merri Artist to come up with a list of limited supplies at a great price.
What inspires me to continue to create: Painting with other artists or sharing what Ive done and getting positive feedback. I’ll be at my friend, Jane Wilson’s studio in Tigard this year. Having Jane’s guidance has been huge as I do this for the first time.”

Sherrie Moomey- Fiber Artist
“I am looking forward to Open Studios as a way to share my art, particularly with my neighbors as I am new in this neighborhood.
This is the first time I have had studio space that is easily accessible.
I work with fiber and love the way it transforms with each additional layer. Occasionally I explore other mediums, but always come back to fiber.
The piece below is whole cloth, dye painted, hand embellished and machine quilted.”

Cherie Savoie Tintary -Analog Collage Artist
“What drew me to my art medium: I needed a new medium to heal from a surgery in 2020 so collage is what I landed on.
What inspires me to continue to create in my chosen medium: Lately I have been working on a perimenopause series because that is what is on my mind at 3:00am.
Something I’d like to share: I offer low cost or free collage meet ups a few times a year, check out my website HERE!”
