Mentorships 2025 part II

Last week, we touched on mentorships building and strengthening community so, let’s talk about 2 key points on how the WCAA Mentorship Program actually does this:

First, WCAA mentorships foster intergenerational connections! Mentorships help bridge the gap between generations, combining seasoned artists’ knowledge, traditions, and personal stories with emerging artists’ fresh perspective and energy. This exchange between artist mentor and the mentee helps keep the arts alive and relevant.

And second, the mentorships provide access to resources and opportunities that otherwise may be out of reach for those interested in pursuing the arts/creativity. The WCAA offers mentorships to mentee applicants free of charge thus, the mentorship program creates a pathway for emerging creatives and their talent to flourish!

Here are 3 more mentorships and their progress

Uli and Richell– Woodworking

Uli and his mentee Richell have been hard at work creating a pop up castle using a scroll saw amongst a few other fun tools! They will be meeting a few more times to finish up this project.

Jane and Patricia-Gourd Design

Artist Jane shares the following, “I’m delighted to share that my mentee, Patricia, has completed her gourd art piece, and it is truly exquisite. She selected a gourd for her creation, meticulously cutting, cleaning and dyeing it.” The above are pictures of the beginning of the process and we will be sharing a picture of Patricia’s finished piece in a future blog post!

Jaelynn, Jay, and Sara- Watercolor

Jaelynn is a watercolor artist who took on 3 mentorships this year! Pictured above are only two of her mentees (from left to right): mentees Sara , Jay, and artist Jaelynn. Jaelynn shared that she has had a wonderful time mentoring and has met several times with both mentees above and looks forward to displaying their work in the upcoming Washington County Open Studios Tour!

Again, thank you mentors and mentees for the sneak peeks into your programs- it’s wonderful to see the progression and hear how it’s going for you all!

And thank you readers for stopping by- we have 4 remaining mentorships to cover so please keep an eye out for a future post!

Happy creating!
