Media: Fiber collage with free-style machine stitching, acrylic glazing
Artist’s Statement: Creating fiber collage ‘HeartCenter Flags,” (think prayer/meditation flags) began as a Love response to chaos and suffering in 2015. My creative process requires listening in Silence and Unknowing to what will flow through me, as I layer recycled fabric and fibers. Details are stitched in as I move the flag freely on my sewing machine, “painting with thread.” This year I have been commissioned to make a burial shroud and frontispiece which has expanded and deepened my process incredibly. Never blending my two mediums, I also create acrylic paintings using a glazing technique. Whether with fiber collage or painting, it is my joy to create “glowing effects,” in pieces. When you visit make your own tiny flag and I’ll stitch it while you wait.

Artist’s Statement: I love color!! My color obsession is present in every brushstroke of my hand painted pottery. I have traveled the world in search of inspiration, whether it be a lively market, a serene landscape, street art or brightly hued produce. I chose to blend my passion for food, travels to 62 countries and pottery into a trifecta of my favorite things thus the creation of Passport to Color. Each of the many glazes used is a wonderful journey, a journey that starts with a vision and ends with a wonderful pottery treasure that evokes great memories. The pieces I create are conversation starters. Whether these are your memories or mine. my hope is Passport to Color will inspire everyone to embrace color and adventure.
