Artist’s Statement: I discovered gourds in 2007 in Kansas. A skilled woodcarver, I was inspired by an artist’s use of color and wood-burning on gourds. I joined a Gourd Society in Missouri to learn more gourd art skills. In 2015 I moved to Oregon and became involved with the Basket Guild. My art blends basket weaving and gourd decoration using hard-shell gourds, pine needles, and natural materials. I prefer coiling and dyeing the cords to match gourd colors for integrated designs. Each gourd and cord react uniquely to dye, creating one-of-a-kind pieces. My colorful gourds are displayed in Portland shows and galleries. I have won multiple awards for my Gourd Art. Most recently winning Best of Master Division in weaving on gourd at the Idaho Gourd Festival.
